Another case of "psychics" screwing with law enforcement -- I suppose the search might have been justified on the grounds that the "psychic" might have planted a bomb and then called it in, but that doesn't sound the the rationale given by the cops...

Finally, an interesting accounting scandal -- Several hundred nuclear missiles remain unaccounted for in the Ukraine...

Report: Al Qaeda Has Nukes -- According to the ever-reliable Fox News. Maybe that's where those missing WMD went. Just what do they smoke over at Fox anyway?

Reason # 82 Why Pop Singers Make Bad Philosophers -- The spirit of INXS musician Michael Hutchence is apparently talking to thrice-reincarnated Kylie Minogue.

Quoth the sheriff: "'I guess the moral of the story is, if you have warrants against you, you shouldn't flip off the police."

For once, he wasn't a shy quiet guy that kept to himself: "Janet Taylor, 37, who lives next door to the McCoy house, said she had always had a strange feeling about him, saying he yelled at her kids and watched her while she washed dishes. 'No one believed me, he's a freak,' she said Tuesday."

I teach my students that the 1988 Dukakis-Bush race was the dirtiest Presidential campaign in recent history. They get to watch Willie Horton, Dukakis riding around in a tank, etc. But you know what? This year is going to be worse. There are still eight mud-slinging months to go and we've already had fabricated Kerry-Fonda photos, outraged 9/11 survivors, and mystical foreign leaders for Kerry. Yuck!

Spain's ruling party was ousted. Serves 'em right for trying to whip up hysteria against the Basques when they already had evidence tying it to al Qaeda.

Masonic initiate shot in the face by member: "The purpose of the ceremony was to show James he could trust his 'brothers' enough to place his life in their hands, and that they would protect him"

Satellite firm accuses O.J. of stealing TV signal -- Why would you waste money suing this guy? It's not as if you'll get any money, since the victims' families are already owed millions....

California Lawmakers Want Voting Age Lowered to 14 -- This is an interesting and innovative proposal. Giving students a fractional vote while they're still learning about politics sounds like a reasonable way to increase interest in the process. Moreover, it helps Democrats because they do well among young and old voters while Republicans do well among middle-aged people. Moreover, this will help groups like Latinos with low rates of voter registration and disproportionately young populations.

Zimbabwe: Ha! Ha! We captured Americans! America:Keep them. We have no idea who those people are.

Porn charge dismissed against man who wrote about molesting children -- Well, this struck me as an obviously unconstitutional conviction when I saw it a year or two ago. Writing in your own diary should not be grounds for conviction on child porn charges, particularly if the stories are for your eyes only! Actually, I'd go further and rule that "mere words" can never be obscene -- only (real) images.

What do you think? It sounds to me like this professor did nothing wrong. However, it would depend on what class he was teaching and whether there was some mandatory syllabus he had to teach (which is what it sounds like). Of course not being able to write your own syllabus is a problem anyway...

Want to see "the market" take on Kerry vs. Bush? Here's the latest stock prices. Remember, each share you own pays $1 if your candidate wins the election. Right now Bush has a penny lead. I think Kerry is overpriced. I would give Bush 2:1 odds, meaning that Kerry should be at abround 34 cents. If I had money I'd buy Bush stock right now at the bargain price of 49 cents.

Most brazen theft ever -- by this way, this was AFTER the group managed to steal a bridge. How do you miss someone taking a whole bridge?

Subversive Condoms -- For the revolution, honey! Mugabe just keeps getting nuttier and nuttier....

Dems slam White House on Haiti policy -- And their alternative is....? We put Aristide back in power. If we support him, we're upholding a brutal American-installed thug. If we oppose him, we're overthrowing a friendly government. If we stay out, we're doing nothing while thousands die and tens of thousands become refugees. Which alternative is best?
